Berkeley Place was founded by Nick Cryer in Summer 2009, initially targeting independent schools and prestigious residential development opportunities. Very quickly, a series of high-quality residential construction and development opportunities followed.
Since then we have successfully completed over 400 projects.
Our unique combination of skills, capability, knowledge and fast growing successful track record is causing more and more clients to choose Berkeley Place above the competition.
MEET THE LEADERSHIP TEAM
Nick Cryer
Nick is a chartered engineer with over 35 years experience in property and construction. Starting on site in contracting Nick progressed into consultancy where he led high profile construction projects for some of the world’s leading property developers; Canary Wharf Group, Hammerson Plc and Lendlease, culminating in a position on the UK board of international multi-disciplinary consultancy WSP Group Plc.
In 2002 Nick established a new regional office for global cost and project management consultants EC Harris LLP (now Arcadis Group), leading consulting initiatives throughout the UK and Europe as a senior partner and latterly, in the role of Head of Commercial Development for the Group.
In 2009 Nick formed the property and construction company Berkeley Place.
Nick is a governor at Blundell’s School and has chaired and advised numerous charitable institutions in regards to their real estate and investment development process.

Alec Webb
Alec has over 25 years experience in the construction industry, more recently in the area of very high value projects including new builds, and restorations of Listed country estates and town houses.
After working in the family construction building business, Alec relocated to Shropshire, founding and running a successful construction business specialising in Listed and historic building restoration for over 9 years. In 2013, Alec moved to Bath, to help establish the local office for design and build specialists Moon, leading their PM team and delivering high-end projects throughout Bath and Bristol.
After 5 successful years with Moon, Alec was head-hunted by award-winning high-end construction company Stonewood, based in Castle Combe, to lead major Listed and historic house projects throughout the Cotswolds, Wiltshire, Wales and South West. Most notably, Codrington Court, which won The Federation of Master Builders overall project of the year for 2021.
Alec brings a wealth of expertise, professional contacts and wider working relationships to Berkeley Place.
Tom Bates
Tom has over of 25 years’ experience operating in the South West construction and property market, with particular expertise in the area of Project and Cost Management. Tom’s career began working for a leading multidisciplinary construction consultancy, where he acted in the capacity of cost manager for a number of nationwide projects. Following a move in 2009, Tom focussed his attention firmly within the residential sector, managing a wide variety of award winning high-end residential schemes, large scale apartment blocks, to one off ‘Grand Design’ type residences, from inception to completion. In doing so, Tom has occupied a number of senior leadership roles at one of the UK’s leading international cost and project management businesses including, Residential Sector Head and Head of Due Diligence.
Tom has an acute understanding of the local and regional construction markets and has established a well-deserved reputation for the high quality service he consistently delivers.
Lucy Thompson
Lucy graduated in 2011, and began her career with the residential team at John D Wood & Co, London. She then gained valuable property development experience working with the strategic projects team at Unite Student Accommodation Plc, and developed her flair for marketing with a leading digital marketing consultancy. In 2018, Lucy joined South West residential property developer The Phoenix Group, where she undertook a key role supporting all aspects of project delivery and management, co-ordinating designers, contractors and specialist suppliers.
Lucy has renovated her own property and brings a passion for period property renovation and interior design to some of the key Berkeley Place renovation projects.
Alice Lumley
Alice is a Business Entrepreneur graduate with first-class honours from The University of the West of England. She co-founded and ran a technology start-up business for over 3 years post-graduation. This included building relationships with key stakeholders to secure investment to grow and develop a team of 2 to 9.
Alice gained valuable experience managing and overseeing the day-to-day needs of the business and its employees while creating investment pitches, designing marketing materials, and managing the business’s finances and day-to-day organisation.
Alice is an excellent project manager with a keen interest in real estate and adds an increasingly valuable skill-set to the Berkeley Place team.
Stephen Wilmot
Stephen is a highly accomplished project and operations manager with over 13 year’s experience working in residential property design and construction.
After starting his working life in media, he transferred to design and construction sector spending over 10 years working in London and the South East delivering a broad spectrum of award winning high-end residential projects. In 2016, Stephen completed a Masters in construction project management.
Following a move to the South West Stephen has delivered a catalogue of residential and new build transformations throughout Bristol, Bath and surrounding areas.
Stephen is passionate about residential design and construction and brings a wealth of professional experience to the team.
Lucy Borrow
Lucy begun her career in property and construction working as part of a small family-owned construction company, where she gained valuable hands-on project delivery experience.
In 2020, Lucy joined Bath based developer Stonewood, as a Project Manager, quickly establishing herself as an integral part of the delivery team. She worked as part of a strategic in-house design and build team, delivering high value, bespoke new build properties. Lucy built a technical skill base and knowledge and understanding of modern construction methods and procurement within a supply chain framework. As part of this strategic team, Lucy gained experience delivering high-end private residential projects.
Latterly, Lucy worked closely with the land and planning teams, reporting to the Board of Directors and financial investors.
